MARC Station Garage / Intermodal Facility
The site includes a rail station for the State of Maryland's MARC commuter rail service. Free parking is available for commuters in a new four-level parking garage providing 704 parking spaces, owned and operated by the intermodal Maryland Department of Transportation.
The line that serves this station - the "Camden" line - runs between Union Station in Washington, D.C. to the south, where it connects to the D.C. Metrorail subway network, and, to the north, the Inner Harbor/Camden Yard area of downtown Baltimore, where it connects to Baltimore's light rail system. This line also has several stops in between Baltimore and Washington, including College Park (University of Maryland). MARC currently operates nine trains each way on this line on weekdays. Between 400 and 500 rail commuters park at the Savage station daily, and 5000 daily commuters ride this line. The rail tracks adjacent to the property also carry an infrequent number of CSX freight trains, which service local distribution facilities as well, to the north and south of the site. Total rail traffic is sufficiently infrequent that MARC rail station patrons cross the tracks at grade to board or alight from trains. The development plan includes station improvements, including the addition of a pedestrian bridge from the new commuter garage to the station platforms. The MARC Station Garage is also served by two bus lines.
